BROOD Board Nomination

Become a Member of the BROOD Board

All BROOD Board Member positions are open in July, 2018. BROOD members are encouraged to consider serving on the Board. BROOD is required by its bylaws to have a minimum of three, but not more than nine board members who serve a two-year term. Our success as a rescue organization is a direct result of the policies and procedures established by the Board.

The Board members elect the President of BROOD from the Board membership. Other BROOD Officers (Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) are selected by the Board from the general BROOD membership (they can also be Board members). In addition, the Board can establish other positions as it sees fit. The Board is responsible for establishing BROOD policies, authorizing expenditures and setting the annual budget.

Specific obligations of BROOD Board Members include:

  • Attending at least three out of four Board Meetings each year. Board meeting are held approximately every three months. Board meetings are usually held via video conference calls.
  • Holding and fulfilling a major organizational role in the annual BROOD Ramble fundraiser.
  • Participating in an active way by attending BROOD events and having a major operational role (e.g. Placement Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, Transport Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, Events Coordinator, etc.)
  • Having email and checking it regularly and timely. Most Board business is handled via email.

You MUST agree that you have read and understood these obligations before you submit your nomination.

If you would like to have a more active role in BROOD's operations, then consider nominating yourself for a position on the Board. All you have to do is provide a short narrative about yourself, your experience in rescue, and your reasons for wanting to be on the Board. To guide you in this process, we ask that you complete a short nomination questionnaire (below) and submit your nomination online. Nominations are due by May 31, 2018.

The election committee will make the election ballot available on the website to the membership in mid-June. The membership will be asked to vote for up to nine people. The election will be held online via the BROOD website, and voting will conclude on July 8. The Board election results will be announced at the Annual Membership Meeting at Frying Pan Park in Herndon, VA on July 14.
