JEFFERY(A04256714)

Jeffery is a 4 year old, loving guy who’s in search of a permanent human companion. He’s house trained and crate trained, no problems with steps, knows how to use a doggy door, not a picky eater, and is definitely a counter cruiser. Jeffery is small for a Basset hound, so he’s confident that he’s just the right size to lie on your lap in the evenings, or any time of the day, and keep you warm and loved.

This affectionate hound prefers to be with humans at all times, so he’s a little whiny when they leave him alone. He has not been destructive when left alone at his foster’s home, other than destroying a loaf of bread left too close to the edge of the counter. He’s currently working on an escape tunnel under his chain link fence. Any adopter relying on a fence for control must consider how escape-proof their fence really is. Jeffery suffers from mild separation anxieties, and would be best suited in an environment where someone is home most of the time.

At meal time, he eats his food with gusto, then looks around for more. He needs to be watched and/or separated from other dogs at feeding times to prevent a food fight from breaking out, at least until he learns the rules. Otherwise, he gets along with other dogs just fine. He’s not much of a player, mostly a sleeper, but this may change as he gets adjusted to his new doggy roommates.

Jeffery has no known health issues, but he does have a bowed front right leg. This leg does not cause him any problems or limit his behavior in any way, but it may become arthritic as he grows older. Although Jeffrey can use the stairs, we have also seen him choose to use a ramp instead.

Jeffery came to BROOD with a history of defensive aggression around small children. Although we have not been able to trigger any aggressiveness, we prefer Jeffery goes to a home with no or only older children.

*The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog's age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the records.

***BROOD's adoption fees are determined based on age of the dog. Individual adoption fees are shown with each dog's listing.
