Simba is a young (about 1 ½ years) handsome, an open red and white male. He is a special boy who will need someone experienced with Bassets. He has all the traits that make people love or hate the breed. He is a big talker and will howl to get your attention. He counter cruises and can reach things you'd never think a short legged Basset could. He is a very sweet and loving dog with people. He is ok with cats and kids and seems to get along better with female hounds and can become aggressive with other male dogs or alpha females. He has not growled or snapped at any people, but he will readily fight another dog for a bone, toy or sometimes just for getting too close to where he is getting HIS attention time.

Simba is a good eater and not picky about his food. He is underweight and could stand to gain about 10 more lbs. He will share his food with other dogs but will not share treats. Because of a difficult life prior to BROOD, Simba is being taught basic skills. He is making progress on housebreaking, crate training, basic obedience training (like sit, stay and walking on a leash) in his foster home. Because of his young age Simba has plenty of time and energy to learn all about becoming a great companion, especially for an experienced Basset owner.

The estimate on the dog's age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the records.
