it's the great pumpkin!

In the late months of spring and early days of summer, we thought that it would be time to get another basset hound. We already had one basset, Daisy, who was three at the time, (turned four on June 30th) and so we looked forward to adopting another. We were hoping to find a boy, but instead my mom looked on BROOD and found a girl basset, and fell completely in love with her.

So our Pennsylvania family traveled down to Virginia to adopt Olive. (Olive was the basset my mom saw online. The reason they called her Olive must of been for Olive Oyl from Popeye because she was so skinny -- she weighed 32 pounds when we got her.)

Before we adopted her, she lived with was in a puppy mill. She had three litters of puppies, and almost her whole life, she was stuck in a cage. Once she stopped having puppies, they were going to put her down. But then someone heard about her. So they put her up for adoption and so that's how we discovered her.

When we got inside, she was jumping on us, wagging her tail, and it almost seemed like she knew that we were going to take her home to a good home. For the first few months, she was going to the bathroom in the house, growling at us in an "I know you're there"' growl, and running away when we were tried to pet her.

But now it is 2007 and she has gotten a lot better, and she has filled out so that we don't see her ribs anymore. And that's our success story for Pumpkin!

Fall 2008 Update - When we got Pumpkin, she was around 31 pounds. Now, she's gained around 10 pounds! She is letting people come near her, even my dad, since the person from the breeding place was a male, and a male abused her, and it's great she's letting people pet her.

Also, she's going outside so finally, our carpet is its original beige, and not spotted yellow. (Thank goodness for the SpotBot!) At last, Pumpkin has become more of a dog!
